How is the junior secondary curriculum structured in NSW?
The secondary curriculum in Years 7-10 in New South Wales schools forms part of a continuum of learning from Kindergarten to Year 12. Typically, students in Years 7-8 work towards the achievement of Stage 4 outcomes and typically, students in Year 9-10 work towards the achievement of Stage 5 outcomes.

Are there mandatory junior secondary curriculum requirements in NSW?
To meet the mandatory requirements for the award of the NSW School Certificate students are required to complete study in each of the Key Learning Areas: English, Mathematics, Science, Human Society and Its Environment, Creative Arts, Technological and Applied Studies, Personal Development, Health and Physical Education and Languages.
Students are required to study English, Mathematics, Science, Human Society and Its Environment (including Australian History and Australian Geography) and Personal Development, Health and Physical Education in each of Years 7-10. Students are also required to complete study in Creative Arts (Visual Arts and Music), Technology and Languages. These requirements are usually met by students in Years 7-8.
