How does your state/territory define the 'middle years'?

In the NT, Middle Years are from Year 4 to Year 9.

What initiatives/programs are currently being implemented in the 'middle years' in your state or territory?

• Curriculum Framework under development to take account of stages of schooling, including middle years
• Curriculum In Action program: One manager and 5 project officers currently being recruited to support curriculum implementation in the Middle Years
• Major professional development activity focusing on Literacy in the Middle Years currently being organised
• Middle Schools projects running in some schools

What are some of the current issues being addressed in your state/territory?

Current issues being addressed:

• Transition of students from one level of schooling to the next eg from primary to secondary
• Integration of curriculum learning areas
• Literacy and numeracy
• Gender issues, esp for boys
