How are secondary schools structured in each state?
How are secondary schools structured in Queensland?
In Queensland, students begin their secondary education in Year 8 (average age 12 years) and can continue until Year 12 (average age 17 years).
Schools that cater for students in the secondary years (Years 8-12) include:

P-12 schools. These schools may offer curriculum programs for the early, middle and senior years.

Secondary schools. These schools offer curriculum programs for Years 8-12.

Senior schools. These schools offer curriculum programs for Years 11-12 only.
Schools may issue a certificate for students at the completion of Year 10.
The Senior Certificate is available to students at the completion of Year 12. The Queensland Studies Authority issues this certificate.
